Driven by digital transformation in the office, technologies such as AI and the Cloud are helping to transform our jobs and the way we work together. In response to the "Flex Office" trend, which entails a certain amount of digital autonomy and good reflexes in terms of cybersecurity, a majority of companies are faced with the issue of digital skills.

According to McKinsey, the need for advanced IT and programming skills is expected to increase by 90% between 2016 and 2030; and overall, 30% to 40% of transformed jobs will require requalification. These telling figures reveal the importance of solid and continuous training for employees, who must be able to carry out their work in the best conditions and most effective way possible.

Apart from technical skills (example: programming languages), this digital upgrade also involves good knowledge of best practices in terms of security, which is essential to protect against an exponential number of cyber-attacks.

How do you prepare your employees for the digitization of your activities? Let's now explore the avenues that will allow them to earn a real “Digital Passport,” if you will.

Performing an initial assessment

Before even looking at the various training courses available, the first step is to map the digital agility within your company in order to ensure that your employees are embracing – both through their use of connected resources and their skills – the digital transformation.

This involves two steps:

  1. Identifying the digital skills required in the company beforehand, performed via an official reference model such as DigComp – less complex and subjective, and adopted by all EU member states.

  1. Choosing between the two types of assessment: an existing "typical" assessment or a tailor-made assessment relating only to the software and digital skills used in the company.

Proposing individualized courses

Once you have taken stock of the situation, it will be easier to identify the training courses needed to improve the skills of your employees.

At this stage, the HR teams benefit from individualized results reports that help them better understand the strengths and areas of improvement for each employee. These reports contain tailor-made training courses to avoid the usual pitfall: a training course that is not very engaging because it is too simple or too complex.

By adapting to the skill level of the employees involved, the training courses offered allow everyone to progress and improve their skills at their own pace.

Measure the progress of your employees

Are your employees ready to get their Digital Passport? It's time to find out for sure!

Once they have completed their training, they can obtain a recognized professional certification – such as the Tosa DigComp certification, for example – to showcase their newfound expertise. Besides encouraging commitment and attendance, these professional certifications are a true measure of the employees' progress.

However, the technology sector is constantly evolving, and the digital tools available to professionals today are constantly changing. In this context, we advise you to keep an eye on the digital agility of your company over time and prepare yourself for any eventuality by assessing your employees regularly such as with an industry-recognized skills certification service like Tosa.
